Multiplication Magic 3

 Multiplication Magic

We are learning to use place value to solve multiplication problems using whole numbers.

Times Table practice:

15 x 5 = 75

17 x 12 = 204

16 x 16 = 256

9 x 9 = 81

6 x 6 = 36

A factor is: numbers that multiply to make that number. A factor of 12 is 6.

A factor of 24 is 12, 2, 24, 1

A multiple is: times tables

Multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48

A prime number is: A prime number is a whole number greater than 1. It can only be divided by itself 1

The first 3 prime numbers are: 2, 3, 5

A Triangle number is:

The first 3 triangle numbers are: 1, 3, 6

(Work shop)

18 x 22 = 396

134 x 12 = 1608

135 x 122 = 16470

145 x 124 = 17980

177 x 155 = 27435

Magic time!

12 x 7 = 84

6 x 14 = 84

What do you notice? They had the same answer

18 x 2 = 36

9 x 4 = 36

What do you notice? They had the same answer

If your teacher asks you to solve 22 x 3, how could you change this to a times table you already know?

22 / 2 = 11

3 x 2 = 6

11 x 6 = 66

21 x 6 = 126

7 x 18 = 126

What do you notice? They had the same answer

24 x 9 = 216

8 x 27 = 216

Why has this happened? Because they are both multiples of 3

If your teacher asks you to solve 33 x 3, how could you change this to a times table you already know?

33 / 3 = 11

3 x 3 = 9

9 x 11 = 99

Clothes Shopping

Last Night me and my Mum went shopping at Sylvia Park. We went to Foot Locker and Stirling Sports. First we went to Foot Locker. I had a look around but all of the clothes were too big for me. So we went to Stirling Sports at Stirling Sports they had heaps of clothes that would fit me. So i had a look around and i found some Nike shorts but they couldn't fit me but beside me was a red Nike T-shirt and it caught my attention so i got it after that I went and had a glimpse at the hats. There was just one hat I liked and it was a NY New Era hat it is black and red. I then took the hat and T-shirt to the counter and paid for it. After that we went home and I tried my hat and T-shirt and it fits perfectly.

Statistical Inquiry

WALT: Conduct a statistical inquiry.

Today we did a quick statistical inquiry. Toby and I asked the class how scared they are about Coronavirus. This is what we found out:

More people feel scared about the Coronavirus.

And eight people feel fine about it.

3 x 3 = 9 5 x 5 = 25 8 x 7 = 56 12 x 10 = 120 4 x 6 = 24 5 x 7 = 35 2 x 4 = 8 3 x 8 = 24 9 x 8 = 72 4 x 7 = 28 9 x 7 = 63

Your sister gives you $125 to spend on lollies. If you spend $65 how much money would you have left over? $60
65 + 60 = 125

Zaeeda has bought her sister a new puppy. She has $500 in her bank account as she heads to the shops.

She first buys a dog bed for $60. How much money does she have left? 440
60 - 500 = 440

She then buys a bowl for $25. How much does she have left?$ 415
25 - 440 = 415

Then she buys 3 chew toys. Each toy costs $3.50. How much does she have left?$405.50c
$3 x $3.50 = 10.50c =$405.50c

Finally she buys a diamond collar for the dog which costs $154.50. How much is left in her account at the end of the day? $296

They then buy a net for $25.  How much do they have left? $425
450 - 25 = 425

Then they buy three tennis balls. Each ball costs $3. How much do they have left? $422

factors and multiples

WALT: I am learning to identify factors and multiples

I had to find the factors of a range of numbers.

12 = 3, 6, 12, 1, 2, 4

24 = 12, 6, 3, 2, 8, 1,

36 = 6, 9, 4, 1, 36

50 = 10, 5, 50, 1, 25, 2

45 = 9, 5, 1, 45

20 = 10, 2, 5, 4, 1, 20

75 = 5, 15, 1, 75

100 = 10, 1, 100

150 = 10, 15, 1, 150

Then I listed the multiples of the following numbers, I went up to 10x

5 = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50

6 = 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60

7 = 7, 14, 21, 28, 32, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70, 77, 84

8 = 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96

3 = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36

15 = 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, 135, 150, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225

The lowest common multiple (LCM) of 2 or more numbers is the smallest number that is a multiple of each of them. E.g. the lowest common multiple of 3 and 2 is 6. (they both also go into 30, but 6 is the smallest number they both go into).

I found the LCM of:

6 and 4 = 12

7 and 8 = 56

9 and 12 = 108

The highest common factor (HCF) is the highest number that can be divided exactly into each of two or more numbers.

For example, the common factors of 24 and 36 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12. So the highest common factor (H.C.F) of 24 and 36 = 12

I found he HCF of:

30 and 25 =5

14 and 21 = 7

56 and 49 =7

12 and 24 =12

AJ’s family are planning to build a treehouse in their garden. Some of Aj’s friends offer to help him to build it.

1. In order to start constructing the house,  AJ needs to get some wood from bunnings. His mum buys 45 planks of wood and his dad buys 132 planks of wood. How many do they have together? 177

 2. While building the house, AJ noticed that they were running out of nails so he went to buy some. They have 9 nails left at home. AJ  buys a pack of 145 nails and a pack of 50 nails. How many nails do they have now? 204

3. To have a more stable treehouse, Jacob decided to tie the corner posts of the house to the tree itself. He used 24 cm of rope for the first post, 20cm on the second, 14cm on the third and 12cm on the fourth. How much rope was used? 70cm

4. The treehouse is almost done; all they need is to paint it. Paschal estimated that they will use 37L of white paint, 15L of green paint and 34L  of brown paint. How many litres of paint would they buy in total? 84L

5. After finishing the treehouse, AJs’ family made cookies for his friends to thank them for helping. If AJ ate 15 cookies, Jacob ate 10, Paschal ate 6  and Tisa only ate 5, how many cookies were eaten in total? 36

Show your working as you solve these problems:

145 + 235 = 280

100 + 200 = 300
40 + 30 = 70
5 + 5 = 10

134 + 127 = 261

1445 + 1564 = 3009

1235 + 5643 = 6878
